Glossary of Terms

Applique - Production method in which artwork is cut from nylon or satin twill material and stitched onto backing material to create the final design.

Bunting(spun polyester) - A strong, loosely woven material used for making flags. Dacron A nylon-like form of polyester material, suitable for outdoor use.

Four Color Process Printing - process by which the subtractive primaries (yellow, magenta, cyan and black) combine to reproduce fullcolor artwork and designs.

Grommet - A hole reinforced by a metal ring, usually found at both ends of the flag header or corners of a banner.

Inkjet - Printing method similar to sublimation . Great for small quantities.

Muslin - woven polyester used for small economy flags. Nylon Heavyweight 200 denier material used in U.S., international and custom outdoor flags.

Polyester(woven polyseter) - Primary synthetic fabric available in a wide variety of textures, knits and weaves, used in flags and banners.

Polyknit(knitted polyester,trilobal) - A durable three-thread polyester material, for indoor and outdoor use.

Polyshine - A glossy, durable material made from three-thread tight weave Polyknit. For indoor and outdoor use.

Polyethylene - Promotional banner material. Suitable for short-term outdoor use. Polyethylene material will be referred to as Poly throughout this catalog.

Ponge - Woven polyester material with a silk-like quality.

Poplin - Form of high-opacity polyester material great for indoor banners and backdrops.

Satin - Lustrous material for highquality indoor banners.

Satinette - Glossy polyester material for high-quality indoor banners.

Screen Printing - Printing process by which a screen is first prepared with the pattern for each color in the design. A metal roller forces the color ink onto the fabric or material where the holes in the screen have not been covered.

Sublimation - A two-step printing process in which special dyes are heat-transferred from a layer of paper directly into the desired material, resulting in photorealistic images and vivid colors.

Vinyl - A highly durable, color-fast man-made material for long-term outdoor use.

Wind vents - Permits high winds to pass through very large outdoor banners.
